The Meteorological Department has warned that there is a possibility of heavy rain in the coastal and Malnad parts of Karnataka for the next few days. A 'red alert' has been declared in several districts including Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada and people have been advised to take necessary precautions. Those living in rivers, low-lying areas and hilly areas have been appealed to be especially careful.
A landslide occurred in the Shiradi Ghat area due to heavy rains in Hassan district. Although mud and stones fell on the road, vehicular traffic continued as usual due to the quick evacuation operation.
The effects of heavy rains in Maharashtra's Western Ghats have also been seen in Nippani. Many connecting bridges are flooded, causing disruption to traffic. Officials have warned the public not to cross flooded bridges unnecessarily due to the overflowing of rivers and streams and the high water flow on the bridges. Keeping in mind the rainy situation, they have been requested to use safe routes.
