The Meteorological Department has warned that there is a possibility of heavy rain in the coastal and Malnad parts of Karnataka for the next few days. A 'red alert' has been declared in several districts including Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada and people have been advised to take necessary precautions. Those living in rivers, low-lying areas and hilly areas have been appealed to be especially careful.
The Krishna river has risen in water due to heavy rains, and the connecting bridge between Kurchi and Ugarakhurd is flooded. As a precautionary measure, the police have suspended vehicular traffic on Jamkhandi-Meraj. Officials are continuously monitoring the river flood situation.
