The Krishna river is overflowing due to heavy rains in Maharashtra and the Western Ghats areas near Chikkodi. The water level of the river has risen sharply in Chikkodi, and there is a threat of flooding in the villages along the riverbanks. Many low-lying areas and connecting bridges are inundated, and the district administration has advised people to be careful. The fear of flooding has further increased in the wake of the forecast of heavy rains in the coming days.
The heavy rains that have been pouring in the Western Ghats region for the past few days have caused major rivers in Belgaum district to overflow. The water level of many rivers including Malaprabha, Ghataprabha, and Markandeya has risen, causing concern among the people of the riverside villages.
