Team India celebrates Asia Cup triumph without trophy after boycotting Mohsin Naqvi

The Men in Blue celebrated Asia Cup triumph without a trophy after boycotting ACC chief Mohsin Naqvi. Team India beat Pakistan by five wickets in the final at the Dubai International Stadium.New Delhi: The Indian team posed for the cameras and celebrated the Asia Cup triumph without their medals or trophy on Sunday, September 28. Suryakumar Yadav does a Rohit Sharma-like slow walk celebration (after Rohit won the 2024 T20 World Cup) and then mock-lifts the trophy while giving a pose for the cameras. This was a plan that was made by Arshdeep and Hardik. In another dramatic development, the Pakistani players didn’t come out of the dressing room even after an hour since the match had ended with only their chairman stranded and embarrassed, wanting to do the honours as per the continental body’s protocol. Salman Agha and his teammates emerged out of the dressing room after 55 minutes and greeted with the chants of “Indiaaa, Indiaaa”. According to PTI, the trophy was not awarded to the Asia Cup champions India after they refused to accept it from ACC chief Mohsin Naqvi. The Asia Cup 2025 champions refused to accept the winners’ trophy from ACC chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who is also Pakistan’s interior minister and chairman of the country’s cricket board. “Ladies and gentlemen, I have been informed by the Asian Cricket Council that the Indian cricket team will not be collecting their awards tonight. So that does conclude the post-match presentation,” informs Simon Doull. Naqvi stood on one side for the presentation ceremony to start, and Indian players were standing within 15 yards, refusing to move from their places, and the formalities were delayed for more than an hour. According to a PTI report, the Indian team management asked the organisers who would present the winners’ trophy, and ACC went into a huddle knowing that their boss wasn’t an acceptable name for the tournament. Once Naqvi took the presentation stage, Indian fans in the stands started chanting “Bharat Maata Ki Jai” and also booed him. After the ACC Chief took the stage, he was informed that the winning team wouldn’t accept the trophy if he tried to force himself, and an official protest would be lodged. As Naqvi waited, suddenly, someone from the organisers took the trophy inside the dressing room. Tilak, Kuldeep star in Asia Cup final Tilak scored an unbeaten 69 runs off 53 balls, smashing four maximums and three boundaries, while Kuldeep Yadav took four wickets to restrict Pakistan to 146/10 in 19.1 overs. Team India needed 10 runs off the last six balls, and Tilak smashed a maximum against Haris Rauf over the deep mid-wicket before Rinku Singh, hitting a winning boundary. The Men in Blue clinched their second successive and ninth Asia Cup title.
